Vegan Meatball Subs


For the Sauce:
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 (28-ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt, or to taste
  • 1 pinch of crushed red pepper flakes, optional
For the Sandwiches:
  • 6 medium buns of choice (eg hoagie, hotdog, ciabatta, baguette)
  • 4 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded or thinly sliced


  1. In a saucepan combine all ingredients for the sauce and bring to a boil. Then simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Place the pre-cut rolls on a foil-rimmed baking sheet. Add sprinkles of cheese, and 1-2 tablespoons of sauce (make sure to wipe the sides), followed by three meatballs. Top with more sauce and evenly divide the remaining vegan cheese on top of the sandwiches. Reserve the remaining sauce for dipping.
  3. Bake at 375F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bread has a crunch and the cheese melted. Enjoy!
